Final 2016

The Jock Stewart final was played in dry and breezy conditions at the Newmarket Links last Saturday.

Bourn and Nene Park golf clubs, having come through the knock-out stages of the county wide competition, contested the 36 hole final.

The final comprised of 3 matches of 36 holes foursomes with one match being played in each of the handicap ranges of 6 to 10, 11 to 14, and 15 to 20. All 3 matches are played off scratch with no shots being taken.
Bourn, winners only once in 2008, were last in the final in 2012 where they lost to St Neots.

Nene Park had yet to win the Trophy and had never contested the final before so they were keen to break their duck and get their name on the trophy.

At lunch Bourn were in a commanding position being 4 up in the 1st match, 6 up in the 2nd match and just 2 up in the last match.

It didn’t get any better in the afternoon as the Nene Park fight back never materialised and Bourn ran out worthy winners by 3 -0.

All of the matches were hard fought but played in a great spirit.

The Links course was in very good condition and Dennis Fawkes and his catering team provided both teams with excellent food.

The draw for the 2017 Jock Stewart Trophy will take place in October this year.
