On the 1st of September at a wonderfully presented Girton Golf club the CAGU U12’s hosted Suffolk and Norfolk U12s in a triangular friendly fixture.
This was the third match of the summer for our U12 with previous matches against Northants and Bedfordshire.
The format was 8 players for each team going out in pairs to play 9 holes greensommes, this was followed by 9-holes singles going off in three balls. Unfortunately Suffolk had been let down and arrived with only six players.
The CAGU U12 squad was very strong, with handicaps ranging from 9 – 24. Playing off ½ handicaps the CAGU boys had to give several shots in every match.
The team consistend of the following players, with Theo Morris also captain for the day:
- Sam Marshall
- Harry Howell
- Matty Laubscher
- Rohan Neat
- Ellis Kerr
- Harry Sheriff
- Alexander Mills
With Theo and Sam up first and a great tee shot by Theo got the match rolling. There was some great golf played from all sides and it was a joy to watch from the young players enjoying the format and the course.
After an even greensommes the scoring reflected a good start by the CAGU team with them leading along with Suffolk
- CAGU – 4.5 points
- Norfolk – 3 points
- Suffolk – 4.5 points
The singles matches then got underway, the CAGU boys played very well in the singles matches with only one player unfortunately not managing to record a point from the 8 matches sent out.
The matches were all played in great spirt and a great credit to all three counties.
The match finished and the final scores came in as follows
A win for te CAGU boys
- CAGU – 14 points
- Norfolk – 10.5 points
- Suffolk – 10.5points
The match was followed by a great two course meal which was enjoyed by all players and staff! Well done to the caterers at Girton.
We look forward to taking part in match again next year, when it will be hosted by Suffolk.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the players and David Gamble, with a special mention to our junior county u12 coach Adam Pike who has been a tremendous help and source of knowledge to the boys and myself this year! Many thanks Adam.
