Links GC, Newmarket was the setting for Winter Series 3 last Sunday. In the cold and wet, CAGU A and B players and the CAGU Juniors set off down the gallopes with not a horse in sight.
After 9 holes the early leaders were Ed Dimambro, Danny Loveday and Luke Ryan going out in level par 37 shots. Both Ed’s and Luke’s driving was immense and Danny’s short game was as ever reliable.
The last 9 was a complete turn around with Paul Hodgkin shooting a 2 under back 9 to finish with a 72 gross which included 3 birdies. Dimambro could only shoot a level par 35 to also finish with a 72. Ryan finished with a 73, which was also the score of Loveday.
So on countback Hodgkin won with a better back nine holes. This was his second tournament win these past 4 months after winning the David Milburn Order of Merit finals day. In the U21 category, Corey Dann shot a 77 going out in 40 shots and coming back in 37. Dann also won the first winter series U21 prize.
The winter series now moves to the final leg at St Neots GC on Sun 24th February which will prove to be a shoot out amongst CAGU’s elite golfers.
Thanks go to Links GC for presenting the course in superb condition considering the snow and rain lately.
