Goodman’s present beat Cousin’s past legends 3-2

The inaugural CAGU past vs CAGU past legends match took place at Ely Golf Club last Sunday. In a match brought about to make the County team match fit for the league season the match proved a great success and will be the start of an annual event.

In the opening match, Owen Davies and Toby Crisp took on Bobby Mallet and past England International, Stuart Phillips. The past grouping took a 3 up lead at the turn, but the past pairing shot 3 birdies on the 11th, 12th and 13th to level the match. Crisp then holed a difficult 7ft birdie to maintain all square going into the 18th . They then halved the 18th to finish all square.

In the second match, Luke Ryan and Tom Rogers raced to a four 4 up advantage against Steve Jarvis and Kevin Diss. The past pairing fought back with Jarvis’s sublime power reaching the 9th in one drive and reduced the deficit to 2 up. The present pairing held on and won 2 and 1.

Callum Brookes then took on the CAGU past stalwarts of Yearn and Cousins. The past pairing showed their class with Yearns majestic short game and Cousin’s pin seeking iron play. Although the young pairing fought hard, with Guy-Pinkney’s knee injury, the past ran out winners by 2 up.

Paul Hodgkin and Danny Loveday battled hard and made a half with Nathan Tenby and past CAGU captain Jody Greenall.

The match that sealed victory for the present team was victory for Isaac Rrowlands and Owen Meeds over Terry Ryan and Matt Hartley by 2 and 1. The Rowlands and Meeds pairing proved a perfect foil for each other with Rowlands steadiness and Meed’s power.

The next county match is against Bedfordshire on Sun 17th March at The Millbrook Golf Club.
