Ryan and Rogers win County Foursomes Championship

The County Foursomes Championship was played at the Links, Newmarket golf club on Sunday and won by Luke Ryan of the Ely City GC and Tom Rogers of Gog Magog with an excellent 36 holes total of 145 gross.

The runners up were Ed Dimambro of Gog Magog and Owen Davies of Brampton Park with a total of 146 gross.
Dimambro and Davies led after round 1 where they scored an impressive round of 2 under par 70 which contained four birdies in the last 6 holes. Ryan and Rogers were just 1 shot behind on 71.

They couldn’t hang on in the 2nd round where Owen ran out of steam having just returned from the USA the previous day and was obviously jet lagged. It was a great win for two of the County team’s young players, both of whom performed extremely well at the back end of the year in the CPS Building Services County Open. Where Luke opened with a brilliant 66 and Tom played 2 rounds under par to win the John Durman Cup.

The best afternoon score came from Kevin Taylor and Danny Loveday with 70, a round that contained 5 birdies and lifted them through the field up into 3 rd place on 148.

The winners for the past 2 years, Dave Quinney and Nick Smits, both of Gog Magog, have played hardly any golf this year so it was to their credit that they put up a good defence of the Championship, finishing in 4th place with 152.

Past winners Steve Jarvis and Kevin Diss rolled back the years to sneak 5th place with 153. The Hamish Fleming Fourball winners Chris Brown and Christian Puttock of the home club, continued their good form by winning the best net prize on 148 after a very late card play off with veterans John Yuill of Links and Peter Laughlin of Gog Magog.

The course played very well considering the lack of rain and the greens were very good.

Many thanks Captain Chaz Vincent for his hospitality and to Matt Hartley and his team for a very enjoyable day at the Links, Newmarket golf club.

Next year’s championship will be held at the St Ives Golf Club on Sunday 26th April.
