Great Yarmouth and Caister GC was the setting for the next round of Anglia League matches. In the opening foursomes Danny Loveday and Oliver Toyer immediately took a commanding lead with Toyer’s pin seeking iron play and Loveday’s immaculate chipping. They ran out winners 4&3.
Luke Ryan and Matt Pearce managed a hard fought draw. James McLaughlin and the impressive Sam Arthur coped with the challenging links course and won 3&2. In the last foursomes Andy Grimwood and Jake Plumb lost 3&2.
This meant going into lunch Cambridgeshire led 2.5 -1.5.
Opening the singles Toyer was in impressive form bogey free with four birdies on 3rd,4th,6th and 11th holes and won 5&4. Loveday was up most of the match but a fight back resulted in a A/S match. Pearce was in a high quality game birdies on 1st,5th,7th,14th and 18th still resulted him needing a 350 yrd drive and a 18th bridie putt on the 18th to halve his match.
James McLaughlin was involved in a titanic battle . The match started with 14 pars. Then a couple of birdies and Mclaughlin then holed a putt on the 18th to win 1up. Luke Ryan lost 5&3 Sam Arthur straight from an impressive performance for the juniors qualifying for the England Golf Finals started with bridies on 1st,2nd,5th and 6th and then again on 13th and 15th . He was still 2 down with three holes to go . A bridie on the 18th resulted in a halve for Arthur. What a performance !
Jake plumb was in impressive form hitting a 250yd 6iron to 15th for a birdie and a wedge to 8ft resulting in a birdie set up a 4&2 win. Andy Grimwood gained a halve and Cambridgeshire won the singles 5-3. The final result was an impressive 7.5 -4.5 away victory.
Director of County teams Graham Goodman said “ The boys really fought well again for a difficult away victory. What is carrying us through is exceptional team spirit with two wins out of two .Our next match is away at Suffolk let us continue”
