Our County Captain Introduction

Luke Ryan has been playing golf at Ely since he was 11 and has been a key part of the men’s team for the past 12 years. Over that time, he has achieved notable success, winning the County Championship in 2019, the County Foursomes in 2019, the County Fourball in 2016, and the Ron Freeman in 2023.

Luke has captained the scratch team for several years and also helped lead Ely to a major milestone this year, winning the scratch league for the first time since 2010. He also works professionally for Acushnet Europe and recently got married.

A standout moment in his playing career came at the 2018 County Open, where he shot his best-ever round: an opening 66 (-6), giving him a four-shot lead after the morning round.

Looking ahead, Luke’s ambitions remain high. For the county team, he aims to challenge strongly for the Eastern Counties Foursomes in 2026, hoping to secure the title for the first time since 2013 after several recent runner-up finishes. As captain, he also hopes to guide the team to victory in the Anglian League, a competition he won previously as a player in 2019.

On a personal level, Luke’s long-term goal is to complete the full set of County titles—needing only the Wheeler Salver and the County Open to achieve that milestone.
